Final Blog Reflection

Click here to view best blog post

This blog is one of my best because of the ways that it passes all the expectations. To make a good analysis post it must make predictions from the text based on little clues the author puts into the text. I was reading The False Prince and if you read my original analysis post you would really understand what I am talking about. Although, if you would like to read my analysis post you can click the link above to view it. My post really passed the expectations because the author includes lots of emotion into some of the text and if you closely read it you will find very important details. For example Sage states, "Do you like it here?" Errol nodded. "If you do what Conner wants, he's a good master." "What if you don't do what he wants?" (pg. 44 Sage). From this text I can conclude that Mr. Conner most likely has a good and a bad side. The reason i say that is because if he treats people well that please him and then has a kid killed earlier in the book he most likely is not a very good person.

I enjoyed the blogger program, but it had a few issues. The software would not run on my Windows Surface for some reason. That’s all the flaws about blogger's software that I encountered. The biggest issue I had knew what assignment we had to do. The way that the rubric was set up was very confusing and knowing when we had to finish things by was a big issue. The way I overcame these issues was by lessoning in class when the teacher went over how the rubric worked several times. I believe that the teacher should make the rubric easier to use and have a more organized schedule for the blogger checks. The teacher also might want to specifically assign a certain category on the rubric for each week.

Chapter 9

At the end of chapter eight Mr. Conner says that he will tell the orphans what his plan is. In the begging of chapter nine he begins to explain his plan. He begins by telling them what the situation is. The problem is this, Carthya is on the brinks of civil war, and it is very close to starting. Carthya is having problems with who will be the next king and right now the city will not choose one over the other. If this continues people will divide the city and the city will fall apart and become corrupt. Therefore I belive he will chose one of the orphans to become prince so that war does not break out and peace can remain in the world.

Chapter 8 Ending

I have just finished reading the end of chapter eight. The chapter began with them having dinner in Mr. Conner's mansion, the food he serves is the best they have had all their lives. Although what caught my interest was in the very last paragraph when Mr. Conner has all his servants leave the room and close the doors. Once everyone is gone he tells them that he is going to tell them his plan. I think that this is going to be a really big deal because of what he has went through with these kids. In conclusion, I really want to keep reading this book to find out what happens to the kids and what the plan is.

Book Recmmendation

I have read about half of "The False Prince" and it is a really good book. I would give this book a 10 out of 10 because of the action, drama, and characterization. This book makes it feel as if you know each character personally. A quick summary, to keep it free from spoilers, would be to say that a few boys are chosen to commit a crime for a wealthy lord. When they are chosen they don't know that they must commit the crime for Mr. Conner but if they are not chosen they don't know what will happen to them. With possibly there life on the line it makes it a very high stakes book with constant drama and non-stop action. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who likes to read books with lots of action, adventure, drama, and questions.

Tone and Mode

I am reading"The False Prince" and over the course of the book I have found the Tone of the book to be elevated while the mood was often them being scared. During the end of chapter eight  Mr. Conner was trying to teach the orphans how to eat with proper manners. "You can not eat with your left hand, that is unacceptable" (Mr. Conner 51).Unfortunately, that didn't go to well for Mr. Conner. When Sage arrived at the dinner table he quickly began to eat since he had been hungry all day. He also was holding the spoon like an axe and Mr. Conner tried to correct him. When he was talking to Sage he had a very formal and tone and a serious attitude. Even after being corrected, Sage made no effort to use polite etiquette as he inhaled his food. Sage had a impolite tone in the way he responded to Mr. Conner and mood was very stubborn. I think that over the course of the book Sage might become less stubborn especially if he want's to stay on Mr. Conner's good side.

Chapter 8

At the end of chapter seven Sage is climbing out of the bathroom. I thought he was trying to escape but after reading on I found out otherwise. Sage was actually just scoping out the land to see where he was and if needed how to get away. When Sage climbs back into the bathroom the servant in calling his name to see if Sage is ok. Sage tells the guard that he had fallen asleep and will be out soon. He does get out soon but the servant sends him back in because Sage is not clean enough. Finally after getting a good bath he was most likly the most clean he had been in all of his life because of the dirtiness of the orphanage. When he arrives at Mr. Conner's dining hall he is the last one there and finds out that the others have been waiting on him. Even though they have been waiting on him Mr. Conner doesn't see anything wrong. When the food is brought out the orphans are greatly impressed because they have never had such a luxurious meal. I believe that the orphans will go along with Mr. Conner's plan because of the luxurious that they receive from him  but will eventually try to escape.

Reading Skills

I have come across some interesting text in the end of chapter 7 of "The False Prince". Sage is told to get a bath by Mr. Conner before he comes to dinner and his servant takes Sage to the guest room bathroom. Sage tells the servant that it will be a while and he can take a break. This made me wonder if he is trying to get away from the servant. Then he try's to find a lock for the door but he can't find a lock for the door so he gets a metal chain to keep the door closed. This made me think what is trying to do, I think he might be trying to get away from every one but I don't see how locking himself in a room would help. Although as I kept reading the author described the setting in more detail. I realized there was a widow with a stone ledge leading around the house and I assumed he would try to climb onto it. When I finished the chapter, Sage had begun to climb on to the ledge to get out of the house while the door was chained closed. Because of his actions I assume that Sage will escape and then try to run away to a random orphanage or anywhere he can find shelter.

Redo of Characterization

I began reading a new book called the "The False Prince". I have read the first two charters so far and I have noticed some interesting characterization from Sage. Sage is an orphan who is almost fifteen years old which is the age that most kids are told they have to leave the orphanage. He was very hungry along with the other orphans so he decided he would try to steal a 2 pound piece of meat from the street butcher, which tells me that is attitude is not very good. The street butcher saw him and chased him down and began to give sage a beating. Luckily a noble man named Bevin Conner came and payed the butcher for the meat so Sage would stop getting beaten. Sage was very thankful that Mr.Conner helped him and felt bad about what he had done and was going to try to be a better person. Mr. Conner wanted to adopt Sage, but would not tell him why, and because Sage was almost 15 and would be kicked out of the orphanage soon he had no choice but to go with Mr. Conner. Mr. Conner had adopted two other kids of about the same age who Sage meet when he got into the carriage, although they were not tied up like Sage because of Sages bad attitude. I also think that Mr.Conner might be a bad guy scene he will not tell the kids why he needed them. It seems weird that he needs a bucnch of random children, it might be that he has a really strange personality. Sage saw how Mr. Conner was treating the other orphans were being treated and wanted to be treated that way so he is trying to act better in general and expecially around Mr. Conner. I think that trought the story Sage's personality is going to improve drasticly from a thief to maybe a very nice person who helps others.

Analysis

I have been suspecting that Mr. Conner has threatened many people before, because of his attitude and how he treats the orphans. As I was reading chapter seven of "The False Prince" I came across a very interesting line that concludes my thoughts about Mr. Conner's personality. "Do you like it here?" Errol nodded. "If you do what Conner wants, he's a good master." "What if you don't do what he wants?" (pg. 44 Sage). This tells me from another person’s point of view what they think of Mr. Conner. Errol is one of Mr. Conner's servants that Sage begins to talk to so that he can find out more about Mr. Conner. He tells Sage that he has been working for Mr. Conner for ten years and a long as you stay on Mr. Conner’s good side he’s a good person but if you don't do what he wants he will not be a good person. My thoughts are that Mr. Conner has his friends and enemies but his friends are most likely very powerful people and his enemies are most likely the poor that can't fight him back. I think that Mr. Conner might need the orphans because he is going to commit a crime that would stop his enemies from getting him. In conclusion, I can predict that Mr. Conner might need these orphans to protect him from his enemies.

Chapter 6

During chapter six of "The False Prince" Sage, Tobias, and Rodent Begin to find out why they were chosen by Mr. Conner. They are asked questions on the way to Carthya by Mr. Conner. The question were about things a smart person would be able to do, such as read, ride a horse with gentleman’s fashion, or know proper educate. That being the case, the three of them being orphans didn't know much about that. They were told that is ok because Mr. Conner expected that scene they came from an orphanage. Mr. Conner tells them in the end that he will chose one of the three that he thinks can do all of those the best. For the other two orphans he told them that they would have wished they would have won. To sum up this chapter, I have learned that Mr. Conner is going to commit a crime that will happen in Carthya using one of the orphans and the two that don't get picked will be in trouble.

Chapter 5

I have now finished chapter 5 of "The False Prince". During this chapter Mr. Conner begins talking to them by asking them questions about Carthya. Sage is slow to answer because he is not originally from Carthya but the other orphans know most of the answers scene they came from Cartyha. Mr. Conner explains to them who will be moving to king once the old king dies. He tells them that a man named Veldergrath will take over when the king dies. Veldergrath is a bad guy who has made his way to the top be killing and destroying the people who are in front of him. Mr. Conner thinks that once Veldergrath becomes king the kingdom will fall apart. Veldergrath has lots of enemies but he also has lots of powerful friends so he can not be taken down. After Mr. Conner tells Sage this, Sage thinks that he might have to over through Veldergrath to save Carthya.

Infer

I have been reading chapter four of  " The False Prince" and I have come across an interesting piece of text. The text says "The better question is how far you will go to win." "I'm willing to lie, to cheat, and to steal. I'm willing to commend my soul to the devils if necessary because I believe there is exoneration in my cause. I need one of you to conduct the greatest fraud ever perpetrated within the country of Carthya" (Conner and Sage pg.28). After reading this I know that Sage has no way of getting out of this situation. This text also tells me that Mr. Conner is very serious about this plan. I can infer that Sage is going to have to preform this act of crime because of the seriousness that Mr. Conner has just talked to him with. I also believe that Mr. Conner will kill the other contestants he has brought along with him because it seems that he is favoring Sage. I can Infer that Sage is not going to act very well when Mr. Conner kills or gets rid of the other orphans. If Sage does that it might hurt Sages chances of survival as well. In conclusion, I can't be sure of what is going to happen but this I what I believe will happen.

Chapter 3

I have finished another chapter of "The False Prince" and Sage is beginning to figure out why he was chosen. He is trying to escape the carriage while Mr. Conner is finding another boy in a different orphanage. While Sage is in the carriage he tries to convince the other two orphans to escape but they will not try to escape. This surprises Sage but they explain to Sage that their life's are not looking good and they are hoping that they can get something good out of this experience. Despite what they tell Sage, Sage still try's to escape. When Sage gets out of the carriage one of Mr. Conner's guards sees Sage and grabs him. The guard threatened to kill Sage, but Sage tells the guard he will start acting better, so the guard let him go this time. Once Mr. Conner came back out of the orphanage with another boy Sage asked Mr. Conner what was going on and he told Sage that the patience is the first mark of a ruler. With that information Sage had a clue as to what all of this could be about. In conclusion, during this chapter Sage begins to figure out what is happening and begins to make his attitude better.

I think that Sage might start to become a nicer character.

Mr. Penumbra's 24-hour bookstore

This summer, I read the book Mr. Penumbra’s 24-hour bookstore. The setting starts in San Francisco in Mr. Penumbra’s bookstore when the main character Clay walks in because he is need of a job. The author of this book, Robin Sloan did a very good job describing the setting for example,” The reading room stretches out before us, long and low. The ceiling is crisscrossed with heavy wooden beams.”(Sloan 144). As the book continued the plot became more visible because of the authors choice of words. While Clay was in the Bookstore, on his night shift, he meets many interesting customers who came in odd hours of the night. The customers are almost all members of the Unbroken Spine but, he doesn’t figure that out until Mr. Penumbra tells him. The Unbroken spine is a group of people who read books from the back of Mr. Penumbra’s bookstore, but these are not normal books, they are encrypted books. The Unbroken Spine believes that once they crack the code they will find out amazing things and might find out how to live forever. In conclusion, I would rate this book a 9.5 out of ten because of the interesting plot, detailed imagery, and dynamic characters.

This is another reader's review on this book.
